CHARLIE PUTH - THAT'S NOT HOW THIS WORKS (short film)

To date I’ve made 34 music videos, and they rarely feel like they say the whole truth about a song. There’s always more to say, and it’s usually just outside the music. It’s more in the moments, and that’s how my brain has always processed things - finally, I was able to make something to recreate truly what this song means to me. I cannot wait for you to hear it. This music video was so incredible to watch because it doesn’t paint either of them as “the good guy” or “the bad guy.” It paints them as human. And I know that the song is just going to continue these real human emotions and be very relatable.

I truly loved this short film video, it’s a gift to be able to see & feel the moments making up a song. I’ve always seen Charlie as a gentle soul, so seeing him angry & yelling was eye opening, even though those are perfect normal human reactions specially in romantic situations! Love the rawness of it all, and Charlie can act despite what he makes up believe!

Their acting is amazing! It feels so real. They are both so talented

Masterpiece!! this is so moving. That's literally how i keep a record of the memories in my mind. Little moments, shared songs, and little details about the person who used to be in my life. The film and the song take me back in time.. It's happy and sad at the same time :(: This represents the flashbacks and how they make you feel so well...

Whoever wrote this needs an Oscar, and the lighting and cinematography look so great! Also, great acting Charlie😀 Props to you, Sabrina, and the film crew for making this👍

The day this video was released was the day I quit drugs. I’ll never forget it. This song and “Clover Cage - Learning To Love Myself” are the two songs that helped get rid of my depression. The whole movie hit so hard and specially that last part, felt that really deep. Thinking that these happened to charlie in real in his past, makes me think how harsh time had been for him.

Okay... as a long-time fan of Charlie Puth, I'm used to his immense musical talent, but I never ever expected him to be this good of an actor?! For years, he was being humble and said he can't act, though THIS masterpiece was made with the legendary Sabrina Carpenter! I am so impressed and I really think this is Charlie's BEST work. So proud and can't wait for "That's Not How This Works."
P.S. The moments where Charlie literally YELLED terrified me... felt so real and we know it came from a personal, dark experience for Charlie. Our hearts are so touched! Love y'all

For some reason this 6 min masterpiece truly depicts how a relationship can take you to the highest of highs, and yet- still leave you with picking up the pieces.
This hit home for me. It will define you ultimately. Whether a scar or beauty mark, moments like those create character and bring life to whatever you’re chasing next. It’s okay to cry to heal and repeat. But I’ve found that one day you will realize that it no longer has control over you, and you will be thankful for who you became because of it.

And the songs from that album connected a lot of us with our own past as well. This video really hit hard. Just wanna say thank you for being the best artist out there. Also at 5:20 and 5:39 damn.. never thought I'd see Charlie so pissed off and scream like that. Kinda reminded me of something similar that happened in my family but hey, this is acting after all.

the fact that he has all those equipment at the end just to hear/find the memories they had before and probably relive the moment through the sounds that he cant hear anymore cuz its all gone 😭

I can’t put into words how this film is. First off, Charlie and Sabrina’s acting performances to me, were AWESOME! The way Charlie can flawlessly perform and act out all these different emotions blows me away. At 5:09 when he raises his voice, it legit gives me shivers. It sounds so legit and real! I didn’t expect this guy to be this good at acting. And Sabrina, even though I haven’t seen any of her work, this performance was awesome. The way she interpreted Charlie’s ex from the stories he’s told blows me away. Both Charlie and Sabrina’s performances were awesome. And the song… oh my god… the song perfectly connects to the short film, explaining the different ways the girl tried to get back into his life. This is truly Charlie’s best work. Awesome job!
